Austin's South Asian population has grown faster than its Navratri calendar has, and for years the answer to "where is garba this weekend" was a three-hour drive. That is starting to change. Everything currently on sale in and around Austin is listed live at the bottom of this page.

The drive problem

Texas garba has been a two-city story. Houston and Dallas both run deep calendars with national headliners and arena-scale rooms — our Houston guide and Dallas guide cover them properly.

Austin sits almost exactly between them, which sounds convenient and is not. A three-hour run to Houston or Dallas is a reasonable thing to do once a season; it is not something you do on a Friday after work, and it is not something you do with small children. The result is that a large and growing community has been commuting to other people's Navratri instead of building its own.

Where the scene is actually forming

Not downtown. The venues that work sit north of the city — Cedar Park, Round Rock, the 183 corridor — which is where much of the metro's South Asian community actually lives and where a room with parking is possible at a price a new event can afford.

That is the normal pattern for a young scene, and it is worth knowing before you plan your evening: assume a drive out rather than in, and assume parking is on site rather than a problem.

Dandiya first, garba following

Austin's growth has come largely through Bollywood dandiya nights rather than traditional live-artist garba, and that is a feature of a young market rather than a shortcoming. A DJ-led dandiya night is cheaper to stage, easier to fill on a first attempt, and far more forgiving of a crowd where plenty of people are new to the floor.

Traditional garba with a live headliner tends to follow once the audience is proven. If you want the difference explained properly before you buy, read our garba vs. dandiya raas guide — they are two different evenings, and Austin currently offers more of one than the other.

What to expect on price

A newer market prices to fill the room, so Austin nights tend to open cheaper than the equivalent evening in Houston or Dallas. Early tiers are still capped and still go first. If a weekend runs two consecutive nights, they are ticketed separately — you can take either or both.

Frequently asked questions

Is there garba in Austin?

Yes, and increasingly so — mostly Bollywood dandiya nights at venues north of the city in Cedar Park and Round Rock. Everything on sale is listed live below.

When is Navratri in Austin in 2026?

Austin's nights run through the Navratri window and into mid-October. Live dates and prices are in the list below.

Should I drive to Houston or Dallas instead?

If you want a national headliner and a traditional live set, that drive is still frequently the answer. If you want a floor, a Friday and no three-hour return trip, Austin now has one.

Do I need dandiya sticks?

Check the listing for what the organizer provides. Many regulars bring their own pair; newcomers usually borrow.
